Why it is called Bekom
Bekom is Afrikaans. It means to obtain. We chose it because the job is not to show you tenders, which several services will do from about R120 a month, but to get you the ones you can actually take. It is said buh-KOM.
About
Bekom exists because finding tenders was never the hard part. The hard part is knowing which few are yours, and which piece of your own paperwork is quietly about to end the bid.
Mission
Public procurement is the largest buyer in the country, and it is designed to favour exactly the businesses that are least present in it. The barrier is almost never capability. It is that the process is opaque from the outside, and unforgiving of a paperwork slip on the inside. Bekom exists to remove that gap — so that whether you bid is a commercial decision, not a function of how much time you had to read.
Vision
A small firm with the right grading and a clean compliance pack should see the tender that fits it on the same morning as the company with a full bid office. Over time that changes who is in the running, which changes who delivers public work, which is the whole point of preferential procurement in the first place.

We bid. We read two thousand advertised tenders looking for the handful that fit, missed a compulsory briefing that fell three weeks before a closing date nobody was worried about yet, and watched a bid go nowhere because a document had gone stale in the meantime. None of that was about whether the work could be done. So we built the thing that would have caught it.
Alert services match keywords against a public feed and are priced by how many keywords you buy, which gives them every reason to show you more and none to show you less. They also do not know your company, so they cannot tell you that a tax clearance expires four days before a closing date. That is the gap, and it is structural rather than a missing feature.
We will not claim to win tenders. We will not take a success fee on public work, because a contingent fee raises a question about what the fee is buying and the answer has to be unambiguous. And we will not show you a tender that is not on the official board or published here by a named buyer.
Values
A value that never costs anything is a slogan. These are the ones that shape what Bekom will not do.
The official board, or a named buyer on Bekom. Nothing else. Procurement fraud against small suppliers works by sending a convincing order for goods they then buy with their own money, and a service that blurs the line between a real notice and a forwarded email is part of that problem.
We are priced per company rather than per keyword, so we have no reason to pad your list. A service that earns more by showing you more will always show you more.
Eligibility we can tell you. Awards belong to an evaluation committee. We take no success fee on public work, because a contingent fee raises a question about what the fee is buying and the answer has to be unambiguous.
If nothing on the board fits you, we say so. If the reason you are losing is a document rather than a price, we say that too. A service that only ever brings good news is not doing the job.
Your compliance pack answers your questions and is never shown to another company on the platform, never sold, and never used to build a directory you did not ask to be in.
Procurement is already written in a dialect most people cannot read. We are not going to add to it.
A few minutes to set up, and from R500 a month. If the answer is that nothing on the board fits you right now, that is worth knowing too.
